In most applications of polymers, mechanical properties are arguably more important than other physical properties. Polymers have the broadest range of mechanical properties of any known material. When polymers have high elongation values, ordinary PE has an elongation at break of 90% to 950% (LLDPE, a linear low density polyethylene, has a higher elongation value). Through special manufacturing processes, some materials can be stretched to length values in excess of 1000%, and ordinary polymer materials can have elongation at break of 50% to 10%. Generally speaking, heat shrinkable film, stretch film, etc., require high tensile performance of the material.
